...CHRCH...The Only Thing Missing Is UR

...Everything Is Free...Unless You Pay

Midnight hisses like cats eyes in the reflections of falling rains
Main roads snake to unknown rivers like recollections of long passed memories give you shivers
Take flight up the flight of stairs that cowers behind the waterless watering hole
To a door with no number but with much more meaning that it will ever pretend to know
Time itself stands still at a bus stop that nobody uses with no excuses
Like a broken key in a broken lock you can sometimes, just sometimes open up Pandora’s Box of chocolates
It’s late, but your watches hands clasp their hands into a knot of grief for a girl you barely knew
Dogs silhouette their rakey-bones beneath sheet lightning, they know it ain’t so frightening
Once you close your eyes n ears, curl up dog-deep into yourself and sleep away your fears
A wedding ring lays asleep in a dream under timedust in a forgotten drawer in a room with no love, no passion
If I could paint your dreams my dear I’d paint them in the latest fashion
Collection boxes rattle like snakes in the short grass at high tide on a long day
Wishing that I, like you, was too….far away
Youngsters hand in hand in the spring meadows of life just seeing, being, believing, never deceiving
And where do their all their balloons set sail for on the bluest oceans of the sky?
When the candles on their cake outweighs the slices of their pie
Some folk build a mountain of dreams when they can’t even climb
And you just know the sun gets up far too early in the summertime
Wailing trains race down howling dogs for supremacy of sound in these swirling winds
At least if I look over my shoulder I can still see where I should have been
The light bulbs as enthusiastic as a broken sign that gives half-hearted messages for a long overgrown way
“Don’t stay in one place too long” my daddy told me, then he left the very next day
There’s nothing like being outside on a hot day with a cold drink snaking down your insides like a large tip on a small steel tray
A pocketful of laughter goes ever such a long way when you’re travelling on your own
A hungry dog dies not knowing that it too is just a bag of mouth-watering dogs bones
“come through the window ~ leave by the door” said the light-fingered thief who stole your heart long before
It ain’t the money I dance with you for, it’s the music I hear when we are jaw to jaw
Curl me up around you, wind me, tie me but at least try me said the broken sweet machine down a forgotten alleyway
That runs from the arteries of this main street like kids in magouldys orchard at sundown on the outskirts of town
Everything’s free ~ unless you pay, they politely told me at the checkout of life
Sometimes it gets so heavy I feel like a divorcee without a wife
Cutlery sleeping ‘top’n’tail’ in a kitchen drawer – the clock stops everyday just for an hour or so at around about four
You know you don’t know, but you know you just gotta still pretend
That on down the straight-lined highway your salvation is just round the bend
Mustangs rear and fret out in the coral tonight, twisters touching down just a whisper outta sight
Don’t count all your chickens, don’t even count all your cows
But just make sure you count all your liddle children – be safe just for now
And the cross creaks, a little, high up on the big church, in a small town full of empty-minded people
It states on a rusting sign outside in its overgrown yard “God can take you higher” – maybe even higher than its grass?
But you’ll still be looking up beneath it’s mighty-steeple spire come the fire
…and you’ll hold tight the knowing dice in your sweaty calculatedly-cold hands…let ‘em roll
…and with a breath you whisper their snakes eyes numbers as they slither away and fall
….and a lone figure cuts a long shadow like a knife through the night as he strolls outta town as the rains come down
…and all this is yours
